Notes on... S-Town

Binge-watching is commonplace. S-Town makes binge-listening a thing. Created by the people behind Serial and This American Life, the novelistic seven part documentary podcast is an unnerving tale that begins as a simple — if horribly real — whodunnit in the middle of nowhere, Alabama.  Centre stage of the story is John B McLemore, an educated, liberal depressive who socialises with the local racists. And he's fascinating. If this weren't so real you'd assume he's fictional.

Some loose-ends don’t get tied, and questionably personal details are revealed about the deceased. But the eccentric characters are so utterly compelling that by the end of the seven hours, you're not interested in the answers to your original questions any more. Get S-Town.
