Pinterest trends: 2018

As reliable as January sales and fad diets, a new year means marketeers making bold claims about new trends. Some are chin-strokingly questionable (we’re looking at you Pantone and your colour of the year). Pinterest’s round-up is wholly more sane and these are some home decor styles we hope to see more of in 2018.

Colourful doors: +121%

Paint can be pricey as heck. Rather than painting an entire room, try a statement front or interior door. Saves on Pinterest for colourful doors have increased by 121%, so they're here to stay for a while. We're talking canary yellow and cobalt blue to cheerfully welcome guests (who will inevitably Instagram it).

Resort-inspired decor: +269%

Why wait for a spa day to relax in luxey surroundings? A few small changes to your bathroom can transform it into a hotel-worthy escape. Rattan and spa-shaped accents are a quickfire answer to boutique-ify chez vous.

Terrazzo: +316%

Terrazzo is that speckled, multi-coloured, 70s flooring everyone thought was horrific until about two years ago. It's been on the rise and 2018 is going to be the year that it's everywhere — yes on floors still, but also wallpaper, accessories, your dreams probably.

Plants: +533%

We're kind of suckers for house plants and we think you might be too. If not, why not? Now is the time to become a convert — and for the less than green-fingered, we got you. Plenty of faux versions are available to get the same urban jungle impact. Foliage easily adds a flash of colour, so little wonder that saves on Pinterest for 'patterned plants' have shown more than a fivefold increase.
