You're right, B'ham's full of incred lofts and spaces to rest your head. And while breaking and entering is still a big no, no, having a good look through the medium of Airbnb is totally allowed. Here are our pick of Brum's most enviable spots to secure, whether you're staycationing or looking for somewhere to put the rellies you could really do with not having in your one-bed.

The Penthouse

If we had a city centre penthouse, we’d want it to look like this. Until that day, we’ll stay at Michael’s place and pretend it’s our own. Luxey blue and mustard velvet accents, Persian rugs and grey panelled walls: this feels more Brooklyn brownstone than Birmingham. You're right in the centre of the action between Brindleyplace and the JQ, and it sleeps six, so just enough for a "weekend away" with friends.

The Narrow Boat

Definitely less glam but 100%  more adventurous, take to those canals everyone is always banging on about on a barge. Moored in a marina in Henley, the location is perfect for heading on to the River Avon. There's a wood-burner to really add to the self-sufficient vibe and it's snug AF for two people, with plenty of nearby pubs if you fall out. And there's prosecco for after your lesson on steering. Is it even called steering on a boat? We really need that lesson.

The Eco Apartment

This Moseley eco apartment has the impossibly cool name ‘Project X’. Our fave feature is the living room picture window (above) with bi-fold frame that's the whole width of the room. In keeping with the green creds, the furniture has been upcycled but with all the creature comforts you’ll want. Well hello Nespresso machine.

The Rural Lodge

The furthest jaunt of all, this rural lodge is maximum country, considering it's just past Redditch.  The cosy self-contained cabin has obligatory sheepskin rugs, wood-burner and rustic accents, but the location is the real winner here. Overlooking fields to the front and back, make sure you pack hiking boots. Or if you’re not the walking type, you only need to venture as far as the pub at the end of the single-track road.

The Aparthotel

Technically part of BLOC hotel, their apartment is available through Airbnb. This home-not-so-far-away-from-home is a three room suite, designed for longer stays than their compact hotel rooms. It’s equipped with a kitchenette and living area, and the decor is chic and minimal. It's a private space with the perks of a hotel — king-sized bed, rainfall shower, ambient lighting, the lot. And of course, just a few steps from the gorgey St Pauls Square.
