Swimwear shopping is up there with jean shopping in the list of Things We Try to Avoid. The perfect colour does not mean it’ll also be the perfect cut. And don’t even get us started on sizing, eesh. To take the pain out of perusing poolside fash, here's a round-up of your soon-to-be-fave maillots. Here comes a certain lifeguard-friendly shade, cut outs, the renaissance of the one-piece.
Ban definitely do
Big in the 80s, Hunza G is back and now a hit with today's supermodels. This bronze set embraces that heritage. Sometimes simple is chicest and Oysho got the memo with the white bandeau top that comes with matching briefs. Clube Bossa's colour block two-set comes in ice-cream hues. High-waisted bikinis are another retro look making a comeback. Go full seaside kitsch with this stripey look from Free People.
Heidi Klein's racer back zip-up suit is Baywatch levels of classic red. Less lifeguard and more girly is this wrap-around floral top from Free People, while Stradivarius is bringing candy-striped goodness with a nod to vintage glamour. & Other Stories is one of our faves, so this lil dotty number, on sale, is one of our absolute favouritest.
Cut it out
Free People’s stripey bikini top and bottoms have keyhole detailing. Figleaves’ black mesh one-piece offers a bit more cover-up if you’re not about bearing all the flesh. We're not sure how to feel about the word 'monokini', but this blue print one from Caffe is giving us joy. The cut out feature under the bust of Oysho's costume makes it very bikini-ish. The geometric leaf print makes it fun. Just one thing to consider with this lot: really weird tan lines.
Ruffle those feathers
Oysho's super sweet floral one-piece gets some little flourishes along the plunging neckline. Warehouse's bronze number has a large frill and crossover back detail. Go extra girly-girl with ruffles, fuschia and & Other Stories (guitar optional). Ganni might be better known for their knitwear, but the Polly swimsuit has whimsical detail in buckets.
