Notes On... The Sandy Duck

I’m not saying I’m dog-obsessed but I am planning my next holiday based around seeing a dog. Rhubarb, and her owner Freyja, are residents at bed and breakfast The Sandy Duck in Falmouth and as charming as Freyja is, it was the doggo I was hoping to spot at breakfast every day.

Set on a hill overlooking Falmouth's bay, Freyja opened the boutique B&B after working on luxury super yachts and that luxe is evident in her home on land too. Behind the bright pink front door of the Edwardian townhouse that she lovingly renovated, every room has a simple Scandinavian look with an English charm. Ours, room seven, had a collection of straw hats hanging in place of a headboard. The heavenly pale pink breakfast room is painted in Farrow & Ball Peignoir and filled with rattan furniture and the dark sultry lounge is Hague Blue. And both have got me seriously questioning my all white plans for my own home.

Falmouth itself was an unexpected delight too—just the right amount of cool indie shops selling woven everything and enough hipster coffee hangouts to give B’ham a run for its money. After you've exhausted the town centre, you won't be disappointed to return to The Sandy Duck. And you'll be delighted to get back to Rhubarb.
